A Social Distance Vacation in Provincetown, MA
We’ve all had something cancelled something during the pandemic. From weddings to vacations, we are all craving a getaway or at the very least a slice of pre-COVID normalcy. First, I will say I am fortunate. I have a home, a job, and even a second job that I adore. However, living in a small, one bedroom apartment has come with its own challenges. I’ve had to find careful and creative ways to escape the city while keeping the health and safety of others in mind.
When looking for social distance vacation ideas, we found Del Mar rentals. Offering vacation rentals throughout Massachusetts, this company also has roots in Provincetown. Offering a variety of spaces, we opted for a three unit condo. Each of us could sleep, prepare our food, and hang out together in the large backyard (all while keeping our distance!)
If you are looking for more Ptown recommendations once the world opens up – check out this Post on everything to do in Provincetown. However, this pandemic has allowed us a version of Ptown I would have never experienced. I absolutely loved having a house rental. It served as an amazing home away from home. More on this below.
With so many families and people in the the boredom boat, many typical summer activities are booked or just off the table all together. So, finding that there are SO many fun, safe activities in Provincetown was really a relief.
Del Mar offered an amazing home base. We rented bikes to explore the cute town, hit the bike trails and saw some photographic wonders. Then, when our tummies were rumbling, we’d pop home for some well deserved food.
Where to Stay For your Social Distance Vacation
We stayed at Del Mar free of charge in exchange for our honest review. However, we 100% support this company. Their attention to detail and speed of answering all our requests was amazing. Each unit had a full kitchen including a dishwasher, fridge AND washer/dryer. They also offered ample parking which is SUCH a win in Provincetown. I stayed in one that opened to the garden. It was such a relaxing experience that I highly recommend. The proximity to town was perfect. Additionally, the units were separate, but close enough to walk and enjoy each others company. This makes it perfect for traveling with friends or family!
Check in was seamless. You get the keyless entry code emailed to your inbox the day of your arrival. No need to check in face to face. Additionally, all towels and linens are provided.
They also offered a unique code for all my readers. If you book here with Del Mar, you’ll get 5% off with code ONECRAFDIYGIRL. We will also be running a giveaway (yes!) on the 28th of June – so check my instagram for details.
What to do in Provincetown
Rent bikes – there are so many bike rentals dabbled through Ptown. You can expect to pay about $20-25/day
Explore the many trails of the Cape Cod Seashore – we biked these gorgeous, paved trails. They go on for miles, taking you through the wooded dunes. Runners and bikers are welcome. However, please be advised that it is quite hilly.
Golfing – there is a gorgeous golf course right in Truro (the town over) that spirals around the lighthouse.
Go for a walk on one of the many, many beaches – We went at sunset to one of the gorgeous beaches that surround Ptown. It is much easier to go to the beach at off hours to avoid crowds.
Have a picnic at Del Mar – One of the great things about renting a house is that you have the entire space to yourself. We loved enjoying the peak busy hours of the day on the lush lawn at home. Luckily, our space even had a grill – which was such a delicious win for these city dwellers.
Where to Eat
Wired Puppy – Great for a gourmet brew and still open!
Grab some provisions or a sandwich from Angel’s Foods and eat at home – I got the most delish sandwich from this little grocery and deli to enjoy at Del Mar.
Get some Ice Cream and look at all the gorgeous homes in town
Our Best Social Distance Vacation Tips
Enjoy highly trafficked areas at off peak hours – We were still able to enjoy the beach as well as the ice cream shop in town because we went during off peak hours. Early in the morning or right at sunset seemed to be the sweet spot.
Pack a mask – this goes without saying to some. However, for those traveling from more rural areas were masks are more relaxed, please note that they help the help and safety of others. Additionally, don’t be surprised if you are denied service if you do not have one.
Buy the provisions ahead of time – While some restaurants are open for take out, don’t bank on your favorite place being open or available when hunger strikes. We hit up a grocery store ahead of time in Orleans, MA and prepared all meals at home.
