Where to Stay in Ogunquit, Maine

The Dunes on the Waterfront

The Dunes is a gorgeous, private resort with a variety of lodging options. With private water access, this is the perfect place to enjoy a socially distant vacation without missing out on your favorite activities. Offering private cabins to hotel-like lodging options – the Dunes gives you the intimacy needed to feel like a lavish vacation without sparing the warm, cozy vibe of vacationing to Maine.

We loved the relaxing atmosphere of staying at the Dunes – you could really stay here all day. The resort boasts 24/7 beach access. However, you need to watch the tide – depending on the hour you might need to borrow on the property’s many row boats to get across so that you aren’t marooned by the rising water.

When you get to the other side of the sandy shore (we walked), you are welcomed by a vast beach that stretches for what seems like miles. Even on the busiest of days, the beach could not feel crowded.

On the property there is also a playground, lounge chairs scattered throughout that offer a magical place to read, and a pool for the kids. While there were so many options, we also opted to explore the surrounding area of Ogunquit.

To Do in Oqunquit, Maine

Explore Perkins Cove – This is a must. Nestled along the rocky shoreline is the popular, photogenic Perkins Cove. Walk along the short street to enjoy restaurants, drinks by the water, and shopping.

Book a sailboat tour or lesson: The Gift sailing seems to be ‘the’ option for a tour by water. They also offer a variety of sailing classes if you want to learn to be your own captain.

Early morning walk on Marginal Way: We ran the path of marginal way each morning to avoid the impending crowds. This paved path skirts the coast of Ogunquit and you hear the gentle lapping of the waves the entire duration of your jaunt. Not a runner? There are benches scattered throughout the path to rest and enjoy the view.

Shop on Maine Street – On main street, or Maine street as the locals call it, there are little galleries, shops and bakeries that might peak your interest.

Day trip to Kennebunk or York: Just 25 min north and south respectively, these two little towns are not only gorgeous, but fun to visit for a day.

Where to Eat in Ogunquit, Maine

MC Perkins – this is a classic you will see in every travel guide. The food is divine, but people really come for the view. Positioned over the crashing waves, you won’t be disappointed if you make a sunset reservation in this eatery.

Loveshack Juicery – This place makes bomb smoothies and coffee. This is a breakfast must.

The Backyard – I loved the coffee and scones from here! They are simple, but so cute.

Barnacle Billy’s: This is a great no frills spot for a seafood dinner.

York Brewery: We drove south to York, ME and stopped at this charming brewery on the way. It had a food truck and a great patio.
