Knotted Headband Tutorial

knotted turban headband

I have seen these knotted headbands on every preppy site this summer. …and I’m here to tell you if you paid more than $25 you spent way too much. In this knotted turban headband tutorial, I’m showing you how you can create this accessory for less than what you spent on your coffee this morning.

Now, my favorite part about this knotted headband tutorial is that it uses scrap fabric. For all my seamstresses out there, this is simply music to your ears. There is finally a reason you kept that 1/8 yard of fabric all these years. And for those non-DIYers, this is great because it is no sew! Either way, you now have a way to save a little money or make a really heartfelt gift!

this knotted turban headband tutorial can be created with just about anything – a shirt with a gorgeous print that has that stain, an old tablecloth or curtain. the options are really limitless so start digging through those drawers! Without further ado, let’s get crafting.

If you like this tutorial, you should see this one for my braided headband:

Materials for Knotted Headband

1 strip of 20 inch x 6 inch fabric

1 inch plastic headband

hot glue

instructions

step one: Take strip of fabric and trifold it. That’s right – Bust out those fifth grade brochure vibes and tuck in the rough ends of the fabric. This will ensure a nice, clean look when we are finished.

step two: fold in half and tie in the middle of the headband. Make a regular ‘ol knot. Make sure it is dead center of the headband and there is enough fabric to cover each side before securing with glue.

step three: Take your hot glue and run it down each side of your plastic headband. Secure each side of the fabric down, making sure that the folded ends are facing in!

step four: using the scrap of the scrap fabric, cap the ends to create a finished look. You can also do this with ribbon.
