Thriftmas continues with this cute homemade clock from a vintage book. Whether you want to place on a table or hang on a wall this DIY is a great way to celebrate the book lover on your list.
The key to this project is thrifting the perfect book. I chose a 2.5 inch thick hardcover for this project. The depth is important to hide the working clock inside. Finding the perfect hardcover book starts with removing the paper cover. Usually, there will be a beautifully embossed cover, like the book shown above. I also adore that when removing the paper cover, there is a monotone canvas underneath – creating a more upscale vibe.

Instructions

Step one: Outline the bottom of the clock kit on the first page of your book – making sure that it is as centered as possible.
Step two: Using the exacto knife, remove the pages to create a dwelling / indent in the pages. Continue this step until the bottom of the clock sits flush with the first page.
Step Three: once you have finished creating the clock cavity, close the book slightly to mark where the top of the clock will come through the cover. Drill this opening to allow the top of the clock to come through the book.
Step four: glue the sides of the book and inside of the indent dwelling with the clock kit removed. Allow to dry overnight.
Step four: place the clock into the book as per the kit instructions. The hand and findings should secure the cover to the first page!
