Best rustic interior paint colors to try in your home
Finding the best rustic interior paint colors for your home can be challenging. There are so many gorgeous bold colors, but classic hues always stand the test of time. Don’t be afraid to step outside your neutral zone – hosting a harmony of hues can create a cohesive, colorful look as seen with these classic New England interiors.
New to painting your home? I was too! here are my favorite tried and true painting supplies.
Adding bold colors in your home starts with layering. First find your neutral, this is your grounding color. The grounding color is what commands the space. If you are choosing a bold red, choose hues that compliment that color.
I usually start with the neutral – will it be the walls or the floor. In the photo below, I used Sherwin Williams Lenox Tan on the walls before using Benjamin Moore Hunter green on the floors. I then layered in the complimenting colors. For examples, in the photo below the two commanding colors of tan and green paired well with dark, rustic browns and vintage yellows.

My living room is a harmony of woody, neutral tones – which is why this vintage flag (which will be framed) popped so well in the space. I love this red color and would love to paint furniture to match this aesthetic. The color matcher has identified the hues below.
My rug is Ruggable and I am absolutely obsessed with how easy they are to clean (especially with two cats). I highly recommend – shop this exact rug here.
