Best Hikes to Day Trip in New England

Growing up in New Hampshire, I was raised on field trips to Mount Monadnock. This picturesque hike is super accessible, which is why it’s one of the most hiked mountains in the northern hemisphere. As a field trip, it was an amazing way to learn about nature, get some exercise and take a break from the academic grind. Of course, these escapes instilled in me a love for the quiet vibe of the trail and the quick conversations with new friends as you pass up the mountain.

My favorite time to hike in New England is autumn. It’s an awesome opportunity to leaf peep and take cute fall pics, while engaging my boyfriend in something he actually likes. I guess not every man’s dream is to be an Instagram husband?  The weather is usually an agreeable temperature, the air is crisp and the fallen leaves oh-so crunchy!

We have since moved to Boston and away from the white mountain hiking hub. However, the central location of our new hometown allows for amazing day trips. All of these hikes are within a day’s drive from Boston. This list focuses on hikes for those with mid-range experience- a challenge for beginners and a great moderate jaunt for those accustomed to a good sweat.
