Quechee, nestled among the technicolor mountains of Vermont, is the Disney world of autumn. Hazard lights consume the road as the eye catching wonder of nature intoxicates you. I had never been to this gorgeous area of Vermont before our trip, but from now on you can forward all my mail to Quechee.
Quechee, a small town right after white river junction, also has adorable neighbors. While our home base was one of the modern farmhouse airbnb’s owned by the Quechee Lakes Club, we enjoyed activities, food, and delicious libations all within driving distance. Additionally, Quechee Lakes Club, or QLVT, sponsored our stay. The location was prime and I will 100% stay there again. This trip was one of a kind. So much so, that it is one of the only experiences I feel that these photos aren’t enough to truly describe the beauty of this place. However, I can’t wait to share my suggestions for you – as I have no doubt it will become one of your favorite places in the world.
To Stay in Quechee, Vermont
While we stayed during the fall, the Quechee Lakes Club is a four season resort. It offers amazing activities during every season, including it’s own ski lift that is available to all guests during their stay. They also offer golf, tennis, and a beautiful, outdoor family-friendly pool.
The airbnb itself could easily fit 2-3 couples or a family. There were two living spaces, one near the kitchen and one upstairs. I find this extra space essential when the trip is kid-friendly or someone really loves their sports. There also was a washer and dryer. I find this particularly heavenly when the weather is a colder or you just get in from a day on the slopes. Nothing like clean, warm clothes fresh from the dryer to warm your heart!
Our house was decked out in modern farmhouse meets ski bum attire. Naturally, we felt right at home. We cuddled up with the soft, warm blankets by the fire and watched cable. Needless to say, we had a divine Saturday evening.
To Do
Go for a hike at Quechee Gorge
This short trek (0.5-0.8 miles depending on preferred route) takes you down from the top of the bridge to the bottom of the gorge. At the bottom, you get a lovely view of the river. While an easy route, it is steep – so appropriate footwear is encouraged.
Visit Longtrail Brewery
This family-friendly Vermont staple is a great place to enjoy a beverage. The ride along the “highway” is amazing for leaf peeping and makes the twenty minute drive wiz by!
Watch Glass blowing at Simon Pearce
Right in the center of Quechee is Simon Pearce where you can watch glass blowers create translucent art right before your eyes!
Go shopping for a Vermont flannel in downtown Woodstock
We say downtown loosely. However, Woodstock Center is worth passing through on your trip. As you leisurely enjoy the local shops and restaurants, you’ll find that many of the houses are decked out in autumn decor.
Go roadside antiquing
There are so many roadside antique stands. Go in and hunt for a vintage treasure.
Go on a Maple and Cheese Tour at SugarBush Farm
This farm not only has friendly equine hosts, but also offers a tour of their maple shack as well as free samples of everything they make! We loved the 6 year cheddar and the dark grade B syrup.
Hit the golf course or go to the pool at Quechee Lakes Club
As previously stated, staying at one of the airbnb‘s gives you full access to the QLVT right down the road. A great option for families, they have so many activities that the family can enjoy together (or separately ;)).
To Eat in Quechee, Vermont
Mon Vert Cafe
This was my favorite food stop on the trip. Whenever I go to Vermont, I need a maple coffee. Their maple latte is the BEST I’ve had. They also offer a great array of breakfast sandwiches sourced from local ingredients. There will be a line, so if you’re in a hurry – before 8am (even 7:30am) is best.
Worthy Kitchen
We love good food. That’s what you will find here. A great array of good food with an equally impressive draft list.
Simon Pearce
While we didn’t go here – as I have a pact with a loved one to try it with them and you can’t break that kind of promise – I hear it’s can’t miss amazing. The food and the crafted cocktails are over the moon!
Also did you hear? Lunch is on us. Check out my instagram to win $150 to Simon Pearce!!!
Pick up some local ingredients and make dinner at home!
We live in a small Boston apartment, so there is no greater luxury than a fully equipped kitchen and grill. Vermont is very proud of their local ingredients and you can find amazing ingredients for your meal right around the corner. Marshall grilled up some impressive steaks from the grocer down the street (Jake’s) and we tossed over some fresh baby red leaf lettuce. Best enjoyed with a Vermont brewed beverage of choice.
Thank you so much for reading about my trip and I can’t wait to hear about yours!
